1. This just in. Channel 4 News.

Let me tell you about my job…I work with a lovely lady named Dee Henderson.  She is in charge of Institutional Advancements for Jackson State.  Under her is my good friend Heather Kennedy who does Public Relations, Marketing, and Media, and under her is me, the Student Reporter (of course).  Dee, Heather, and I all went to Nashville Tuesday.  We went to the Channel 4 News Studio!!  Now, I know everybody thinks it’s a big deal to go to Hollywood and meet the stars, but I think it’s impressive to go somewhere close to home, and see the “hometown celebs.”  The weather woman for Channel 4 is Mrs. Lisa Spencer.  We got to sit in the studio and watch the crew do the news and Mrs. Lisa do the weather! That was probably one of the coolest things I have done ever!!  Jackson State knew her back in her younger days when she was a former Miss Jackson State, and she got to go to the Miss Tennessee Pageant—which I think is awesome!!  We were going to put a story about her in our Jackson State Journal.  During the interview, Heather did most of the talking because she was writing the main article, BUT I got to ask her some questions too!  I asked her what she thought the best advice for students is when they get stressed with school, work, family or even all three at one time.  She said to always keep your mind open and keep your goal in sight because you never know what could come your way to change your life.  Not many people know that I used to want to be a meteorologist, and seeing her yesterday kind of triggered that a little.  That’s a big WHAT IF still with me, but she’s got it down for sure.  I loved the way that Mrs. Lisa was very professional but very fun at the same time.  I admire her for that.  She definitely kept her goal in sight with an open mind because she is extremely successful now.  She is a great role model for many, many students.  It was an amazing experience to get to meet her and hear her stories and advice about life.  I thank Dee and Heather for the opportunity to go as a freshman in college that hasn’t even been working here for that long!!
